Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel

I walked up to the Chanel counter to browse their new Spring 2013 product line a few weeks ago. I wasn’t there to buy anything. Really, I wasn’t. But how did that end up? I walked away…with new Chanel makeup. My arm is like Gumby’s. It’s so easy to twist. Thank you, thank you, I’ll be here all week.

The product specialist must have seen me coming from a mile away. She didn’t grab anything from the new line to tempt me. I was the innocent little kitty getting wooed by Pepe Le Pew.  She grabbed a bronzer. She asked to try a little on my face and as she was swirling and sweeping, she called me Olive. Well, she actually said something like this is tres magnifique on your olive skin. Le Mew. Hook, line and sinker, my friends. Where do I pay?

She introduced me to their cream bronzer called Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base. This product isn’t new and I’m no stranger to bronzer. I needed this as much as Michael Lohan needed to father another child.  But I couldn’t go home without it. Look at this whipped goodness…

It looks like a Frosty! The texture is so light and airy, it feels like nothing is going on your face. Yes, it’s a cream but it is the lightest, softest texture I’ve ever felt. The color is perfectly warm without looking like a bronzer and works for both Ivories and Olives (yes, Ivory walked away from the counter with her own jar as well).  It sets to an undetectable texture that wears all day. I use a fluffy duo fiber brush and apply it where the sun would normally hit; cheeks, forehead, nose and chin. It can also be used as a contour color but I love using it to warm up my overall complexion.

On the left, you can see the color not blended. On the right, you can see how it looks when blended.

I’ve read that some people have compared it to Too Faced’s Aqua Bunny Cream to Powder Bronzer, which I reviewed here, but there is no comparison. Aqua Bunny is redder, heavier in texture and coverage and has a strong tropical scent. Don’t get me wrong, I have loved Aqua Bunny for some time but Soleil Tan de Chanel has won my heart.

Here is Soleil Tan de Chanel on the left and Too Faced Aqua Bunny on the right.

Ready for the price? Soleil Tan de Chanel is $48 for 1 ounce. One ounce is A LOT of product! In comparison, Aqua Bunny is $28 for .32/ounce which means you would pay more than $87 for the same amount as Chanel. Go ahead and visit the Chanel counter and just try to fight the Gumby arm. I dare you!

Availability: Nordstrom $48
